The artificial intelligence never ceases to amaze us, and now a new field, art, is being introduced. Historically, technology has helped artists, for example with camera phones. However, the art has always been considered reserved for human beings because of their conscience, critical capacity and inventiveness. Now, with the advent of the Ai-Da robot, that sold his artwork for one million dollars, a new scenario opens up.

Artificial intelligence is proving, day by day, that it is not an invented bubble or an exaggeration. At the moment, it is being able to complete many human tasks or actions. If being able to write a content post or detect breast cancer doesn't surprise you, wait until you see its artistic ability.

Let's get started!

His portrait of Alan Turing sold for one million euros

We tell you the story. The humanoid robot Ai-Da made a portrait which he called “The God of AI”, in which, basically, one could see Alan Turing on a large scale. The artwork was taken to Sotheby's, The auction was held in London, where it was put up for sale and ended up fetching the whopping sum of 1,084,800.

Sotheby's reported that there were up to 27 offers for taking over the painting by Ai-Da. He also pointed out that it was initially thought that this work of art would sell for around $120,000 or $180,000, but expectations were clearly exceeded. The auction house itself indicated that this is a historic sale that opens a new scenario in the world art market.

Who is Ai-Da, the robot by AI artist?

Ai-Da is a humanoid robot trained exclusively to be an artist. This artificial intelligence was created by the gallerist Aidan Meller, The Commission, although it needed the assistance of experts from the Oxford and Birmingham universities. Thus, it is the first ultra-realistic robot artist of the world, capable not only of painting, but also of drawing and sculpting.

This AI robot is equipped with cameras in their eyes and with advanced AI algorithms. What makes it unique, however, is its ability to listen, learn and evolve. It visualises images and transforms them into works of art through a computer process. However, it does not work autonomously, but must be given directions, as if it were a ChatGPT o Google Gemini.

In an interview with Aidan Meller, he revealed that the creative process begins with a brief conversation with this robot. They talk about different topics and concepts, so that it gradually receives and internalises the instructions from the humans. After that, it just starts with the creation process.

What does Ai-Da say about his artwork?

As we have been saying, the Ai-Da robot is able to speak and engage in conversation, so he said his artwork “invites viewers to reflect on the divine nature of AI and computing as they consider the ethical and social implications of these advances. Alan Turing recognised this potential and stares at us as we race towards this future.

Undoubtedly, at Euroinnova we agree in the analysis of this robot with AI, since one of his works of art has been sold for one million euros. This event shows that we are facing a new paradigm shift in the art world, which traditional artists should not overlook. It is time to adapt to change.

Why did he paint a portrait of Alan Turing?

That Ai-Da drew a portrait of Alan Turing This is no coincidence, since it is one of the most important founding fathers of artificial intelligence for his theoretical and practical contributions in the field of computing. He is well known for his Turing test, in which he assessed whether a machine could exhibit intelligent behaviour similar to that of a human being.

Another of its achievements was the development of the Turing machine, a model that showed that any mathematical problem that can be solved by a human being could also be solved by a machine. Thus, he already anticipated the power of technology to carry out complex tasks.

However, Alan Turing stood out and became popular because he created the Colossus machine during World War II, which helped decrypt the encrypted messages from the Enigma machine Nazi. He is undoubtedly a professional who laid the theoretical foundations of AI and modern computing, influencing generations of researchers. For this reason, he is considered to be the father of AI.
