The RAM memory (Random Access Memory, o Random Access Memory in Spanish) is a type of memory volatile essential for the operation of computers, smartphones and other electronic devices.

Unlike memory ROM (Read-Only Memory, o Read Only Memory), the RAM allows data to be stored and retrieved in a fast and temporary while the device is in operation.

What is RAM and what is it for?

Imagine that your computer is like a work desk. RAM would be like the surface of the desktop, where you place the documents, tools and materials you need to work at that moment. The information you need to run programs, open files and browse the internet is temporarily stored in RAM so that the processor can access it quickly and efficiently.

Difference between RAM and ROM:

  • RAM memory: Volatile, fast, stores temporary data (running programs, open files), erased when the device is switched off.

  • ROM memory: Non-volatile, slow, stores permanent data (operating system, BIOS), not erased when device is switched off.

Types of RAM:

  • DDR: The most common in computers and laptops, it offers high speed and performance.

  • LPDDR: Designed for mobile devices, it consumes less power than DDR.

  • HBM: High-bandwidth memory used in servers and graphic cards high performance.

  • SRAM: Static memory faster and more expensive than DRAM, used in processor caches.

Factors to consider when choosing RAM

  • SpeedRAM speed is measured in megacycles per second (MHz). The higher the speed, the faster the data is transferred and the better the performance of the system.

  • CapacityMemory capacity is measured in gigabytes (GB). The more capacity you have, the more programmes and files you can open at once.

  • LatencyLatency: Latency is the time it takes for memory to respond to a request from the processor. A latency lower means better performance.

  • CompatibilityIt is important to make sure that the RAM memory chosen is compatible with the motherboard of the computer or device where it will be installed.

What is the ideal RAM size?

The ideal RAM size for a device depends on how you use it. For basic use (web browsing, email, office), 4 GB of RAM is usually sufficient. However, if you use more demanding programs (video editing, games, graphic design), you will need more RAM, between 8 GB and 16 GB. For very demanding professional tasks, even 32 GB or 64 GB of RAM may be necessary.

In short, RAM memory is a fundamental component for the operation of any electronic device. Its speed, volatility and temporary storage capacity make it a key part of ensuring a smooth and efficient experience when using your computer, smartphone or tablet.

VDI

VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) is a technology that allows users to access virtual desktops hosted on remote servers. Instead of having an operating system and applications installed locally on each computer, VDI centralises these resources in a data centre.

Data-driven

When we talk about a data-driven company, we are saying that the company makes its operational and business decisions based on the analysis and interpretation of reliable data. The terminology data-driven denotes that a company has a good understanding of the data that is used in its operations.

ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

The term «ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT» refers to an error that occurs when a client, such as a web browser, is unable to establish a connection to a server within a reasonable time. This message, commonly seen in browsers such as Google Chrome, indicates that the connection time is too short.

Authentication

What is authentication and why is it important? Authentication is the process of verifying a user's identity before granting access to protected resources or information. It ensures that only authorised persons can interact with a service or access it.
